This depends on how you look at it. Like many certifications, this needs to be looked at as an opportunity for you to demonstrate to your patients, your colleagues, and yourself that you have met the requirements (educationally and by examination) set by a specialty board composed of psychiatrists with many years of expertise in adolescent and young adult psychiatry. The Board Certification may be that additional qualification that puts you above your competitors should you be applying for a competitive position, and it could be very helpful to you in gaining referrals from colleagues becuase of your demonstrated expertise in adolescent and young adult psychiatry. So, while you may not receive more than general or child/adolescent psychiatrists in a fee for service reimbursement model, you might be paid more through other means. But in the end, this isn't about being paid more, but rather you having confidence that you have passed the requirements to be certified by our Board as an expert in Adolescent and Young Adult Psychiatry.
