The initial certification period is 10 years. During that time, Diplomates are required to keep their Board Certification active through annual continuing certification (education) activities. Diplomates may recertify after their initial 10-year certification period in 5-year intervals. A recertification examination is presented as an option to ongoing annual continuing certification activities or if such activities are deemed by the Board to be insufficient at the time of recertification application.
